A total of 46 former rebels from Paquibato on Thursday affirmed their
allegiance to the Philippine government during a summit held at Rizal Park.
The FRs, during the activity, took an oath of allegiance that they would no longer engage in rebellious activities and pledged their dedication, loyalty, and ethical commitment to the government’s laws and principles.
The event was attended by city officials and security forces.
In a message delivered by
Davao City Public Safety and Security Office Head Angel Sumagaysay, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte welcomed the former rebels in the city as they return to the fold of law by taking
oath of allegiance.
The mayor also thanked the security forces and stakeholders in the government and private sectors who were involved in sustaining the shared cause towards peace and order even after the Insurgency-free status of the city.
“Today’s ceremony makes an important chapter in the lives of our surrenderees as they affirm their commitment to abandoning the armed struggle and becoming law-abiding citizens of our nations. Let this serve as a fruit of our enduring peace-building effort in the city and it is through this triumph that grants us further momentum to carry on a program rooted in inclusivity and reintegration.” the mayor said.
He also encouraged everyone to keep working together to build a stronger community free from threats of terror and violence, not just in the city but throughout the country.
Davao City Councilor Luna Acosta, in her speech, highlighted that the summit is a beacon of hope symbolizing the power of reconciliation and strength that comes from unity.
Acosta cited the profound commitment to healing by the surrenderees.
She thanked the men in uniform who contributed to the success of the program and also the relentless efforts of Peace 911 and all the partners who helped in the transition of the former rebels. CIO
