The City Government of Davao on Friday expressed support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with key officials attending the MSME Fair at SM Lanang.

Present during the fair are Davao City Economic Enterprises Officer-In-Charge Maximo Macalipes MPA, MPM, and representatives from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the City Agriculturist Office.

Macalipes said that trade fairs are significant because they serve as an avenue for idea sharing.

“Mao ni ang avenue nga ma-share nato sa ang atoang best practices ilabi na ang business ideas, kadtong mga would be entrepreneurs makakat-on sa adtong mga expert na sa negosyo. (This is the avenue to share our best practices, especially for business ideas. Would be entrepreneurs can learn from experts in their business),” Macalipes said.

Macalipes said they support fairs, especially since they help develop MSMEs.

“Makigduyog ko sa ilaha at the same time i-invite pud nato sila sa atong future nga trade fair sa atong siyudad sa Davao (We join them in this activity and at the same time, we also invite them for future trade fairs in Davao City),” Macalipes said.

He said that their office has consistently supported MSMEs through trade fairs and during special events in the city, and also through the Roxas night market where MSMEs are given a venue to showcase their products.

Macalipes said that MSMEs can also seek assistance from the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO) for financial support.

“Ang CCDO nagatabang pud sa entrepreneurs sa initial nga panginahanglan a ilang funding so muduol lang pud sila sa city cooperative naa silay assistance para sa mga MSME (The CCDO is also helping the entrepreneurs in their initial funding so they just need to inquire from the city coop since they have assistance for MSMEs),” Macalipes said.

Macalipes said that MSMEs can apply for city-led trade fairs in the future.

The MSME Fair on Friday was attended by a total of 20 exhibitors from Davao City.

The fair is part of the MSME Week that runs from July 8-14.

Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. President Bellinda A. Torres, in an interview with Madayaw Davao on Friday, said that the events conducted so far are very successful.

“It has been very good we have had several events, an example of which is capacity building we had pieces of training and now is the trade fair. Basically what we want is to introduce the public is what we can offer as MSME. So we know for a fact that in Davao City we have 48,000 businesses and we would like more of us to take part in this particular event and hopefully in the future showcase products they have not only locally, nationwide and hopefully internationally. At the end of the day what we want is an inclusive economy wherein every business can thrive and take part in the growth that we have right now,” Torres said. CIO
