The City Government of Davao, through the Davao City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Health Office (CHO), provided
immediate assistance to the Barangay 2-A fire victims.
As of Monday, the CSWDO was able to provide modular tents, a mobile kitchen, psychological first aid, personal hygiene kits, blankets, food, and non food items, and started the validation for financial assistance to Barangay 2-A fire victims.
The CHO also provided medical assistance to injured survivors and one severely injured person was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center and is already stable. The CSWDO also provided wake and burial assistance to the families of two teenagers who died in the fire.
CSWDO District Head for Población District-A, Amelee Buot, in an interview with Madayaw Davao on Monday, said that as of Sunday evening, there were 65 families or 487 individuals affected by the fire. As of the latest validation, 61 of them are house owners, 22 sharers, 45 renters, 33 boarders, and three are caretakers.
The affected families sought temporary shelter at the Magallanes Elementary School.
CSWDO Head Julie P. Dayaday said that they are fast-tracking the validation of the fire-affected families eligible for financial assistance, especially those who have damaged houses. Those who have totally damaged houses will receive Php 20,000, and those with partially damaged houses will receive Php 15,000 as financial assistance. Renters and Sharers will also receive Php 10,000 and boarders will receive Php 5,000.
She said that CSWDO direct service implementers started the validation on Sunday after the Bureau of Fire Protection gave the go signal.
Dayaday said that the CSWDO also assisted in the wake and funeral of the two teenagers who died in the fire. Currently, the bodies of the two are at Villa Funeral Home but the families asked that the wake be held in Barangay 2-A.
“Ang City Government of Davao nag provide tanan sa assistance nga pwede nato mahatag sa ilaha (The City Government of Davao is providing all the assistance that we can give them),” Dayaday said, adding that they have designated a dedicated social worker to assist in the needs of the deceased and their families.
She added that a donation drive for the fire victims is also being conducted with Rizal Park as a drop-off point.
She urged the public to only donate decent and clean clothing and kits.
Dayaday said that the affected families need hygiene kits, water, and school supplies for children. CIO
