Various conservation initiatives in energy, marine, forest-based, and other green initiatives are slated to be showcased in the Lunhaw Awards and Lunhaw Expo on September 18-20, 2024.
The event is a partnership between the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Agriculturist Office, Davao City Water District, Davao Association of Catholic Schools, and SM City Davao.
Ms. Yvette Balayon-Mahinay, knowledge officer of Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS), said during the I-Speak media forum on May 30 that more than 100 Lunhaw awardees will be highlighted during the event.
“We will be highlighting them through an expo to know the status of their initiatives and also invite Dabawenyos to replicate their initiatives,” she said, adding that Lunhaw conversations will also be done by the awardees for people who wish to replicate the initiatives.
The 2nd Luntiang Pluma will also be held to award journalists, and student publication writers in Davao City for their articles from 2022-2024.
“Articles may expose or oppose, propose, advocate for environmental realities, and report destructive and corrective actions within Davao City. Thematic areas include water, air, energy, and urban livability. Each writer may submit 3 articles. Previous winners and awardees are not eligible to submit,” said IDIS Digital Campaign Officer Aldrian Dela Cruz during the same forum.
The deadline for the submission of the application for Luntiang Pluma is on July 31, 2024.
Dela Cruz said that while the first Luntiang Pluma awards focused on Davao-based journalists, this year, student publications are accepted as qualified participants.
“We want na ang kabataan naman po ang magkaroon (We want the youth to have) knowledge about environmental students here,” Dela Cruz said.
They are expecting all student publications of universities, colleges, high schools, and even elementary schools to join the Luntiang Pluma.
Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the winners, and they will become part of the pool of media advocates. There will be close communication with media and student writers for environmental advocacy in Davao City. CIO
