As part of the city government’s initiative to bring books and educational resources to schools and barangays, the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) – Mobile Library continues to visit schools and barangays.

DCLIC-Bookmobile and Disaster Education Head Arniel Enoc, during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday, said that since August last year, they have already visited 88 public schools and 38 daycare centers.

The Mobile Library has also visited six facilities, including a drug rehabilitation center, a Lingap Center, and a home for the elderly, in addition to nine private schools.

Since pupils in remote parts of the Marilog and Paquibato districts have little access to the city’s main library, these locations have been given priority.

Enoc said the visits include storytelling sessions, book reading, mascot and puppet show, basic life support education, and disaster preparedness and awareness orientation for children from Grade 5 to high school.

He said they have three mobile libraries– the Disaster Education Bus, which serves both elementary and high school students; the Green Bus, which serves students in Grades 3 to 6; and the Blue Bus, which is designed for nursery children.

He also said three staff members are responsible for storytelling sessions, Enoc himself does the disaster-preparedness instruction, while seven other employees are engaged in basic life support instruction and information literacy.

“Naa pod ta’y film viewing. Katong mga related stories nga naay moral lessons (We also have film viewing. Those stories that have lessons),” he said.

Enoc said they coordinate with the Department of Education for the public school visits. Private schools, he said, can write a letter to their email address (dcl@davaocity.gov.ph) requesting a visit.

From Monday through Thursday, they visit public schools and barangays.

Fridays are reserved for visits to private schools, Lingap centers and homes for the elderly. CIO
