Eighteen teams of responders from the barangays and volunteer groups showed their rescue skills during the First Responder Rescue Skills and Obstacle Competition held from July 18-22 at Crocodile Park.
“A total of 18 teams participated. The required number of players is ten,” said City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Admin and Training Acting Division Head, Lyndon Ancajas in a media conference last week.
The events included first aid and basic life support, swift water rescue, landslide (rock fall), rope rescue, collapsed structure rescue, vehicular accident rescue, fire scenario rescue, and, obstacle course.
Ancajas said that the rescue activities are usually done on the ground but organizers placed challenges before the participants could conduct the rescue to test their skills.
The awarding was spearheaded by the Davao City Sports Development Division on June 20.
Hailed as the winner of the barangay category is Barangay Maa. Placing second was Barangay Baliok; Barangay Daliao placed third; Barangay Lubogan placed fourth; and Barangay Crossing Bayabas placed fifth.
For the volunteers category, Eagles was hailed the champion. The Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team Inc.- DART placed second; the Davao Volunteer Fire Brigade (DVFB) placed third; the San Pablo Quick Response Team – PDART placed third; and the SARA Davao Rescue Volunteers placed 4th.
The Responder Rescue Skills and Obstacle Competition is part of the observance of the National Disaster Resilience and Prevention Month in July.
Another big event for the NDRP is the city-wide full-scale earthquake and tsunami shakeout drill that will take place on July 26. CIO
