The City Government of Davao, in partnership with the Task Force Davao, national and local government agencies and other partners, offered a more widened community assistance to members of the Maguindanaon tribe in Talomo District through a Kulturavan event held in the Barangay 76-A gym on Thursday, May 3.
Task Force Davao Commander Colonel Darren Comia, in a media interview on Thursday, said that the Kulturavan event was expanded and has been catering to more beneficiaries since it started in 2023.
“Napakaganda ng feedback sa ngayon. Ang target natin is 1,000 individuals, I believe it is more than 1,000 already. Gumaganda, lumalawak ang agencies, non-government organizations padagdag ng padagdag (We have received good feedback. Initially, we only targeted 1,000 individuals, and I believe it is now more than 1,000 with more agencies giving services in each event, including non-government organizations),” Comia said.
Attendees of the Kulturavan were able to avail of free seeds and vermicompost, medicine, food, registration services from national government offices, driving school registration, free haircuts, and many more. Some attendees also got lucky during raffle draws for items from sponsors.
Aside from the caravan of services, a meeting with representatives of the 11 tribes was held. The meeting was also attended by representatives from local government agencies and partners.
Comia said that the main purpose of the Kulturavan is to reach out to the communities.
“This is all to ensure the safety and security of Davao City kasi naniniwala tayo na ang pagtutulungan ng bawat isa, ang pabibigay ng serbisyo sa taong bayan in a community malaking epekto ito para maiwasan natin yung mga parating na threat kung saan sila mismo ang magtataboy (This is all to ensure the safety and security of Davao City because we believe that the cooperation of each and everyone, the giving of services to the communities, have a huge impact in preventing threats, especially if it is the people from communities who will thwart them),” he said, adding that through the continued coordination, the residents themselves will be able to help protect the city’s peace and order.
Comia said that more Kulturavan will be held monthly, benefitting a community of each of the city’s 11 tribes and will be held alternatively between Muslim and IP tribes. CIO
