The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), from April 29 to May 5, seized almost a kilogram of crystal meth (shabu) with an estimated street value of over P6,645,000.

The bulk of the confiscated substance is from an 807-gram bag of shabu seized in a buy-bust operation by officers from the San Pedro Police Station on May 3. The drugs had a street value of well over P5.4 million.

DCPO Spokesperson PCapt. Hazel Tuazon said that last weekā€™s operations resulted in the apprehension of 40 people for illegal drugs charges.

ā€œFrom April 29 to May 5, 2024 ang atoang operations conducted sa illegal drugs is 34 and then naa taā€™y confiscated shabu na 977.284 grams nga nagkantidad og P6,645,531.20, ug naa tay 54 ka kaso nga na-file against aning mga violators (From April 29 to May 5, 2024 our operations conducted on illegal drugs is 34 and then we have confiscated 977.284 grams of shabu worth P6,645,531.20 and we have 54 cases filed against these violators),ā€ Tuazon said in an interview over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday.

Tuazon said these numbers speak of the DCPOā€™s heightened campaign against illegal drugs in the city. She said that from January to present, a total of 505 anti-illegal drugs operations have been conducted. These operations resulted in the arrest of 629 individuals.

A total of 670 wanted personalities, Tuazon added, have been arrested from the start of this year to present. She attributed these accomplishments to law enforcersā€™ doubled efforts and support from the communities.

ā€œNagpasalamat ta sa mga community aktibo nga misuporta sa atong kapulisan paghatag og any information nga nakahatag og dako nga impact sa atoang campaign against illegal drugs diri sa atoang siyudad sa Davao (We thank our communities for actively supporting our police force in sharing information which gives a big impact in our campaign against illegal drugs),ā€ Tuazon said.

The DCPO, in a statement, vowed that it will continue to combat illegal drugs in the city and that the accomplishments mentioned are a manifestation of its commitment to this end. The police office also merited its Police sa Barangay program for the success of its anti-illegal drugs operations.

ā€œIt is noteworthy that such successful operations are possible through the invaluable help of the community and in collaboration with the Local Government of Davao and its barangay officials,ā€ the statement reads. CIO
