The City Government of Davao, through the City Social and Welfare and Development Office, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and other stakeholders, turned over a Php 450,000 livelihood capital seed fund to the Asenso Baguio Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association in Baguio District on June 5, 2024.
The Asenso Baguio SLP Association, composed of 30 members, was given the grant as for a General Merchandise store in Barangay Baguio Proper, Baguio District, Davao City.
A ribbon cutting for the store and its launching was also held.
CSWDO Officer-In-Charge Julie P. Dayaday, in an interview with Madayaw Dabaw on Tuesday, said that the fund for the grant was from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 11 (DSWD FO XI) under the SLP Program.
“SLP sa DSWD kini siya ginahatag ni nila sa atoang mga associations sa matag barangay. So ang identification ani inubanan sa barangay, CSWDO and DSWD kay ang funds gikan man sa DSWD (The SLP is given to associations in the barangays. So the identification of the recipient is done in coordination with the barangay, CSWDO, and DSWD),” Dayaday said.
She said that CSWDO, in partnership with the barangay, will monitor the project.
“We encouraged them that ma-sustain gyud to siya (We encouraged them to sustain the project),” Dayaday said, adding that the livelihood grant given to the association does not require a return of investment.
She said that they were hopeful that through the program, the bayanihan spirit will be instilled among members of the association for the sustainability of their business.
“The Php 450,000 is already a long way gyud para sa ilaha. Sa associations nga gusto mu-avail sa SLP muduol lang sila didto sa CSWDO kung asa sila na-belong, dapat organized sila or kung wala pa we will organize them and we will propose for project sa DSWD para mahatagan sila (The Php 450,000 is already a long way for them. For associations that would like to avail of the SLP, they need to go to the CSWDO office in their districts, and they should be organized, if not we will organize them and we will propose for a project to the DSWD for them to be given a grant.
Dayaday said that they ensured that members of the association were able to undergo training and social preparation before the grant was released. CIO
