In the relentless pursuit to ensure road safety and maintain peace and order in the city, the Davao City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit (DCPO-TEU) conducted a mass destruction of 623 modified mufflers on May 31, 2024.

The modified mufflers were either voluntarily surrendered or turned over to the TEU, the City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CTTMO), and other DCPO police stations from July 2, 2023 to May 30, 2024.

PCol. Rolindo Suguilon, Officer-in-Charge of the DCPO, said during his speech that the activity symbolizes the DCPO’s “aggressive commitment to the enforcement of traffic laws to ensure a safe road environment for all Dabawenyos.”

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte also said during his speech that the main purpose of the activity was to create a society that is safe for the public.

According to Duterte, the modified mufflers contribute to noise pollution and affect the quality of life of Dabawenyos.

“Pinaagi sa ing-ani nga pagdakop nato sa mga modified mufflers nga nagadungag sa noise pollution, we are improving the lives of the Dabawenyos, gina-improve nato ang quality of life kay labi na sa panahon karon nga congested na ang Davao, daghan na’g tao, guot na gani unya naa pa mo’y mga driver nga abusado kaayo nga magsinamok lang sa dalan [Through these apprehensions of modified mufflers that only adds to the noise pollution in the city, we are improving the quality of life of the Dabawenyos, especially now that the city is already congested. The city is already densely populated, we can’t just let drivers who do not abide by the traffic rules and regulations continue causing trouble on the streets],” Mayor Duterte said.

The city government of Davao, along with the TEU and CTTMO, continues to urge Dabawenyos to be responsible and disciplined drivers and pedestrians to help ensure and promote road safety and better quality of life for every Dabawenyo. CIO
