The City Government of Davao on Tuesday, August 6, was recognized anew as a Lunsod Lunsad grant recipient for the second tranche of the Creative Spaces in Public Places project, which was initially implemented in 2023.

Christian Cambaya, Unit Head of the Investors Assistance and Servicing Unit of the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center, said that Lunsod Lunsad is a project of the Department of Trade and Industry, in partnership with local government units.

“Davao, being one of the LGUs, was given a grant to implement the creative spaces in public places project,” Cambaya said.

Cambaya said that the symbolic awarding this year was for the fact that the city has been chosen by DTI again to implement the 2nd phase of the Lunsod Lunsad project.

According to the DCIPC, it was in 2023 when the city first received the grant from the DTI. This paved the way for the launch of the Lunsod Lunsad activities starting January 2024 and its activities were implemented in the first half of 2024. The culmination activity was held on May 25, 2024.

The activities in April included creative workshops on painting, sketching, and drawing, and dance workshops in various gyms in the first, second, and third districts. Creative workshops on dance and cultural performance, workshops on the development of film, a film forum, and Mugna sessions or sessions that triggered a deeper appreciation of all creative industries domains were also held.

Under the second phase of the Lunsod Lunsad, more creative events not covered by the previous Lunsod Lunsad will be implemented in the city.

The Project Activities under Lunsod Lunsad 2024 include Creative si Dabawenyo: A Davao City Creative Industry Brand Identity- a stakeholders consultation activity; Lutong Bahandi sa Dabaw (Gastronomy)- a contest that will showcase Durian and Chocolate as a cuisine/dessert/beverage; Musikahan sa Dakbayan- a showcase of Davao Music Talents; Pagkamamugnaon: Indigenous Materials for Modern Contemporary Fashion- this is a workshop for the 11 Tribes in the Kadayawan Tribal Village – a cultural hub located at Ramon Magsaysay Park; Content Creation: Documenting the LL Project Activities Contest- a content creation contest that will showcase the Lunsod Lunsad Project and its activities; and Davao Createfest: Forum and Week-long Exhibit of Davao City’s Creative/Innovation Goods.
