The newly renovated Toril Park, which was inaugurated on Monday, now offers added amenities for the young and old alike. Parks and Playgrounds Division Chief Engr. Juancho Dagasohan on Tuesday said that the renovation involved all parts of the park, and they made sure that the park can cater to the needs of the public.

The division is under the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

“Gi-usab gyud tanan ang Toril Park, ang landscaping and amenities. Gi bag-o ang amenities, naa na ta’y children’s fun park, senior citizen’s fitness area, comfort rooms, parking space, bike racks, and walking or jogging area (We changed almost everything at the Toril Park , the landscaping and the amenities. The amenities are newly added, we have children’s fun park, senior citizen’s fitness area, comfort rooms, parking space, bike racks, and walking or jogging area),” he said.

He said that for the children’s fun park, there are climbing areas, seesaws, slides, and animal obstacles. He was happy to note that children were already availing of this feature right after the inauguration.

“For senior citizens, naay mga na paggpaugnat sa kusog, pero fixed-in siya, ubay-ubay pud dili ingon nga daghan, kay puli-puli lang man siya (For senior citizens we have facilities for muscle strengthening, but it is a fixed facility, we have put up quite a number of this),” he said, adding that even those who are not senior citizens can use the facility.

A designated lane for walking and jogging was also put in place in the newly renovated park.

Dagasohan said that the park is open from 8 am to 8 pm, similar to the operating hours of the 25 other parks in Davao City. It is also accessible via jeepneys with routes traveling from Poblacion to Toril. The park is located in front of the Toril District Park.

He invited those living in Toril or its environs or even those who live in the Poblacion area, to visit Toril Park.

“Gi-abrihan sa gobyerno sa siyudad sa davao didto masinati makita and ma feel ninyo ang kahayahay sa park na palibot. Gisadig ko ang tanan bata, man, katigulangan o hamtong, gahini ninyo og panahon nga musuroy sa Toril Park. (The park was opened by the local government of Davao as a place where people can relax and have leisure. We encourage everyone, the children, elderly, or adults, find time to visit the Toril Park),” he said.

Dagasohan underscored that the park, as a leisure area for the public, is funded by the local government as it saw the importance of having leisure time amid the routine of life.

“Sa pressure sa atong panginabuhi ug mga kalisdanan sa kinabuhi usahay mangitag leisure ang tao, they are free to go to our parks. Required man gud na sa tao nga naa siya’y leisure gamay sa iyang kinabuhi mao na ang gobyerno nag provide og space para mag lulinghayaw (Amidst the pressure of our employment and the challenges we face in our daily lives, sometimes people seek for leisure, and they are free to go to our parks. A person requires at least a little time for leisure in his life so the government is providing space for leisure),” he said.

Currently, they are working on the enhancement and improvement of the 4-hectare People’s Park, the biggest park in Davao City. “Ready na ang appropriation, the plan is ready, bidding nalang (The appropriation is ready, the plan is ready, and it is already up for bidding),” Dagasohan said. CIO
