The Department of Health, in partnership with the City Health Office (CHO), Philippine Society of Nephrology-Mindanao, and Southern Philippines Medical Center, led in the celebration of the World Kidney Day with a series of lectures on kidney health.

The event was held on March 11 at the SM City Davao, and was participated in by at least 100 healthcare personnel from the barangays, kidney centers, and medical schools in the city.

With the theme “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health,” the celebration emphasized the importance of recognizing kidney disease risk factors, and the crucial role of timely testing to improve early detection, intervention, and patient outcomes.

Dr. Margie Roa-Rubio, CHO’s Assistant Health Officer for Operations, urged Dabawenyos to take proactive steps in ensuring kidney health and have their kidneys tested.

“Early detection allows for timely intervention which can slow down or even prevent the progression of kidney disease leading to better health outcomes and better quality of life,” she said.

“To protect your kidneys, I encourage you to have a healthy lifestyle, stay hydrated, be mindful of your diet, manage underlying conditions, and avoid self-medication,” she added.

Dabawenyos are reminded to take care of their kidneys. Should symptoms of kidney disease like cloudy urine, blood in urine, edema, or a hard time urinating, visit the nearest healthcare service provider and get tested. CIO
