The Davao City Health Office’s (CHO) Population Division recorded an increase in the number of No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) acceptors in the city surpassing their 2023 record.
Justice Mindanao Rasgo, City Population Division’s NSV Coordinator, said during the ISpeak Media Forum that as of October of this year, their office already served 110 clients.
This is higher than the 2023 record of 107 acceptors, and is the highest record since the program’s implementation in 2008.
The Population Division is also expecting an increase from this number following their scheduled free NSV on November 29 in time for the celebration of the World NSV Day.
Rasgo said that for the scheduled free NSV, a total of 22 clients already expressed their interest in availing the service.
Out of this, 12 are from outside the city.
Since 2008, Davao City has been providing free NSV services to Dabawenyos and non-residents.
NSV is a family planning method with a procedure that lasts for 10-15 minutes that requires minimal aftercare and shorter recovery period compared to bilateral tubal ligation.
Rasgo said that to avail of the service, interested clients only have to reach out to their office.
“Ang amo lang ginapangita sa pasyente is ang iyahang willingness nga mu-submit for the procedure kay ang atoang NSV gina-consider nato ni nga permanent method (We only require the willingness of the client to submit himself to the procedure since we consider NSV as a permanent method),” he added.
Rasgo also highlighted the importance of male involvement in family planning.
He said that they continue to promote active male involvement in family planning as well as to consider NSV as a family planning method.
The City Population Division continues to accept clients who wish to avail of the free NSV on November 29.
