The City Government of Davao, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRMMO), on Wednesday started its three-day safety and security cluster disaster response orientation program to assess and further improve the city’s disaster response and preparedness.
The three-day activity is being held at the World Palace Hotel.
Attending the activity are the members of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council along with the Safety and Security Cluster.
Active Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees as well as accredited Community Disaster Volunteers of the city are also present during the activity.
Rodolfo Encabo, the Assistant Head of the CDRRMO, said in an interview that the activity aims to assess the city’s disaster response preparedness as well as to update the city’s disaster response manual.
“Mao ni ang consultation meeting nga mag-come up ta og mga preparasyon, ginaupdate nato ang atoang mga manual of disaster response (The activity serves as a consultation meeting where we come up with preparations for disaster situations, and we also update our manual of disaster response),” he said.
Different approaches in camp management in evacuation centers as well as the importance of the proper handling of human remains after disasters will also discussed during the orientation.
The current disaster response and preparedness of the city will also be assessed. Points for improvement are expected to be raised during the discussion including the accessibility of evacuation centers to differently abled individuals.
The crucial role of barangay personnels and volunteers as first responders during disaster situations will also be highlighted. CIO
