Thousands of participants from various Lesbian Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) groups all over Davao City, and supporters from the private sector, companies, and marching bands joined the Pride Parade from Roxas Avenue to Rizal Park on June 23, 2024.

Harold Quibete, the Event Organizer of the Pride Parade, told the City Information Office (CIO) that the event was very successful given the number of those who joined and witnessed it.

“Successful and event almost 8,000 ang mga contingent and ang mga viewers including naa sa 15,000-20,000. We have a total of 111 contingents [groups], seven bands and seven floats),” Quibete said on Monday, noting that the LGBTQIA+ community and the coalition were very helpful and cooperative in bringing in their best for the event’s success.

Quibete said that aside from the participants, they also owe the event’s success to the joint effort of the city government and its offices, the City Tourism Operations Office and Public Safety and Security Office, the security cluster, and the event organizer.

The presence of Vice President Sara Duterte, and city councilors during the event is also much appreciated.

“Nalipay gyud mi nga naa sila, and it is a nice way of showing that the government is opening its doors nga accepted and valued gyud ang LGBTQIA+ community diri sa Davao (We are happy that they are present, and it is a nice way of showing that the government is opening its doors, that the LGBTQIA+ community is accepted and valued here in Davao),” Quibete said.

He said that the event was generally peaceful and was conducted smoothly without any delays, during the parade. CIO
