The pilot testing of smart traffic enforcement that could detect and capture violators of the speed limit, non-wearing of seatbelts, and anti-distracted driving will start soon, an official said.

City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) Head Dionisio Abude said in a media forum held last week that the pilot testing is the next phase after Phase 1 of the project, which involves the installation of cameras.

Three STEs have been observed to be installed in three areas of the Diversion Road – Gap Farm, Crocodile Park, and Jade Valley.

“Kanang sa Diversion atong gihimuan og experimental (What we are doing at the Diversion Road is experimental),” Abude said, adding that once proven doable, the city is poised to enter into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to install the same mechanism in strategic areas to be identified by the CTTMO.

Meanwhile, mirroring the STE, a smart parking has also been pilot-tested along Ilustre St.

“This is now functioning but wala pa siya nag start kay gina tan-aw nato kung effective ba diha ug doable (This is now functioning but it has yet to start because we are still checking if it is effective and doable,” Abude said, adding that should the project be applied in the entire city it will also be done through a PPP.
