Music filled the air of Rizal Park as the finalists for the Koro sa Pasko took the stage on Saturday, December 7.
The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) included the Koro sa Pasko as one of the Pasko Fiesta’s main activities, showcasing the Dabawenyos’ singing skills and creativity.
Each group sang two songs— at least one Christmas song —mesmerising the audiences with their melodic voices.
Named winners were the Mintal Senior Citizens Chorale for the senior citizen category, Ma-a Central Children’s Chorus for the school-based elementary category, Davao City National High School S.P.A. Centennial Chorale for the school-based high school category, and the Mindanao Chorale Ensemble for the open category.
Second placers were the Bambu Estate Senior Citizens Association Chorale for the senior citizen category, the Talomo Central Elementary School Chorale for the school-based elementary category, Kaduyog Youth Choir for the school-based high school category, and the University of the Immaculate Conception Chorale for the open category.
Placing third were the Bago Aplaya Tinytrebles Choir for the senior citizen category, Catalunan Pequeño Elementary School Voice Club for the school-based elementary category, BDCNHS Harmonic Chorale for the school-based high school category, and SPC Chorale for the open category.
Miguel Benedict Peralta, a member of the Davao City National High School S.P.A. Centennial Chorale, said they just enjoyed their performance and made sure that they sang excellently.
“We came here to celebrate the Christmas season and to share our music with the people, and to inspire din po sa iba’ng tao po (other people),” he said.
Kian Valerie Mata, another choir member, said they prepared so hard to to win the contest.
The first, second, and third placers for the senior citizen, school-based elementary, and school-based high school categories received plaques and cash prize amounting to P50,000, P35,000, and P25,000, respectively.
The first, second and third placers for the open category received P75,000, P50,000, and P35, 000, respectively. A consolation prize of P25,000 was also given to three non-winners in the open category. CIO
