The Davao City Ancillary Services Unit (ASU) has acknowledged the help of barangays that have formed a well-supported drainage brigade.

ASU Head Paul Bermejo, during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday, said that some barangays in the city have well-established drainage teams that help the ASU a lot.

“Naa ma’y uban nga barangay nga naa na sila’y team, kanang team nila nindot pa, kumpleto uniform, kumpleto PPE ginagamit pud nila sa clearing operations, naa pud silay’ dumptruck (There are already barangays that have teams and they have complete uniforms, PPE that they use for clearing operations, they also have their own dump trucks),” he said.

Bermejo said that the barangay drainage team provides augmentation while the ASU
teams stay in specific areas during the week to unclog canals.

Banking on this initiative, Bermejo encouraged the other barangays in Davao City to emulate the initiative of forming their drainage teams.

“Kung ang tanan unta nga mga barangay mugahin og budget for drainage clean-up and road clearing operations, mas mugaan ang trabaho sa local government unit sa Davao City (If only other barangays provide budget for drainage clean ups and road clearing operations, the task of the local government unit of Davao City will be lighter),” he said.

Aside from unclogging drainage systems, Bermejo said that it is also beneficial for barangays to ensure the clearing of sidewalks for easy access in case of fire incidents. He also reminded the communities to properly dispose of their wastes to avoid clogging the canals as this could lead to floods.

Bermejo said that their office continues to conduct clearing operations. They are also requesting for more advanced equipment that could help them easily conduct drainage operations. CIO
