The City Government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), has provided safe and secure emergency shelters to victims of calamities this year.
From January to November 2024, the CSWDO said it assisted a total of 91,749 clients who needed emergency shelters.
These temporary shelters were equipped with child-friendly spaces, and spaces for breastfeeding mothers.
Aside from the emergency shelters, the CSWDO said it has provided food packs, mobile kitchens and psychosocial interventions to all those affected by calamities and other emergencies.
This year the CSWDO also procured another unit of mobile kitchen to cater to more clients in times of emergencies.
The CSWDO has partnered with the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in the response aspect for calamities.
The office also participated in various simulation exercises for flooding, and for this year, it participated in the
2nd River-Wide Simulation Exercise in Toril District.
During this scenario, the CSWDO deployed an emergency response team to the Operation Center, the Incident Command Post, and evacuation areas to ensure that everything is well prepared.
CSWDO social workers also attended training on disaster response, including the Basic Training on the Management of the Dead and Missing Persons (MDM) for the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DCDRRMC) members last October 14-16, 2024 at Eden Nature Park and Resort.
The district social workers and direct service implementers from district offices under the CSWDO also underwent a three-day training on the Management of the Dead and Missing persons last November 6-8, 2024.
