More than a hundred barangay tanods from the First District of the city gathered on Thursday at Rizal Park for the Barangay Peace and Order Seminar for Barangay Tanods.
Spearheaded by the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Peace and Order, the tanods received inputs from various city offices.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management gave input on disaster Preparedness; the Davao City Police Office gave input on the Anti-Criminality drive; and the Task Force Davao gave input on the Culture of Security.
SP Peace and Order Committee Chair Councilor Luna Acosta, in an interview with Madayaw Davao, said that the seminar is important for the continuing education of the tanods.
“The aim of this program is to help the barangay tanods understand their roles and responsibilities sa community dili lang sa crime prevention but also sa disaster sa culture of security and all other responsibilities na posible ihatag sa ilaha sa barangay and sa city (that are possibly given to them by the barangay and the city),” Acosta said.
She said she is thankful to all the attendees, and hopeful that the information they received from the seminar will be shared with more people.
“I think importante ni siya no kay daghan pud tag barangay tanod nga bag-o lang they are very new sa ilahang roles and responsibilities so more information should be given to them (I think this event is very important because we also have many new barangay tanods and they are very new to their roles and responsibilities, so more information should be given to them),” Acosta said.
After the talks, the office also turned over tanod gear such as tanod uniforms, whistles, batons, and flashlights.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Baste Duterte also attended the seminar and encouraged the tanods to use their tanod gears well and effectively perform their roles in the community.
Acosta said that the seminar was the first leg of the seminar for barangay tanods. They are hopeful to conduct similar seminars for barangay tanods in Districts 2 and 3 and are looking for additional partners to conduct such events. CIO
