The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Monday, denied the rumor circulating on social media that a balut vendor in Agdao was robbed Sunday night, January 19.

PCapt. Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the DCPO, said the balut vendor was attacked by someone with whom he had a conflict the previous week.

She also urged the public not to make hasty judgments from social media posts since it can cause needless fear.

“Dili ta mu-conclude dayon kung wala pa’y investigation nga gi-conduct ang atoang kapulisan kay naa man gyu’y usaha’y nga ang mga post dili tinuod (Let’s refrain from drawing conclusions without an investigation conducted by our police because there are posts that are not true),” she said in an interview with the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio.

Several posts, including a robbery incident of a taxi driver in Agdao, recently circulated on social media.

She said not to easily believe these information, especially if it is not verified by their office or any authority.

“Dili lang gyud ta magtuo og dili gikan sa opisina or gikan sa authority nga ing-ana ang nahitabo (We must not believe if the report did not originate from the office or the authorities),” she said.

Tuazon also said they will coordinate with the city’s lawyers to file cases against fake news peddlers, adding that fake news could cause panic.

“Amoa na’ng ipaabot sa amoang legal office diri sa Davao City Police Office para pod naa ta’y ma-sample-lan [tungod sa] paghatag og false information sa atoang publiko, kay maka-cause man gud na og panic sa mga tao nga makabasa sa ilahang post (We will report this to our legal office here at the Davao City Police Office so that we can file a case against those who are spreading false information to the public because it can really cause panic among individuals who read their posts),” she said.

She said Dabawenyos should support one another in protecting Davao City and be mindful of what they share online.

“Magtinabangay ta’g protekta sa atoang syudad sa Davao dili kay magtinabangay ta’g [daot], ug nay mga individuals diha nga gusto madaot ang atoang syudad (Let’s work together to protect Davao City, not help those individuals who want to destroy the image of our city),” she said. CIO
