The 20th City Council on Tuesday issued two resolutions supporting the city-wide campaign against illegal mufflers and recognizing the efforts of the police and traffic enforcers implementing the campaign.

Councilor Luna Acosta, primary author of the two resolutions, said the campaign against illegal mufflers is vital in eradicating noise pollution across the city.

“City Mayor Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte raised the importance of mitigating noise pollution in Davao City in order to improve the quality of life of Dabawenyos,” the councilor read.

“The 20th City Council supports the statements of City Mayor Duterte, encouraging all Dabawenyos to abide, for their own safety, traffic and transportation laws and remind business establishments not to sell these illegal items,” she added.

The resolution also specifies the council’s implicit support of the mayor’s discouragement of the purchase of illegal mufflers.

Acosta also proposed another resolution commending officers of the Davao City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit (DCPO-TEU), City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), and the DCPO’s Police Stations for their achievements under the campaign.

The June 4 destruction of 623 illegal mufflers seized from July 2 to May 30 was highlighted in the resolution.

“The 20th City Council acknowledges and recognizes the efforts and utmost commitment of the DCPO-TEU, all the police stations in Davao City, and the CTTMO in the intensified conduct of monitoring and apprehension of bora-boras within the city,” Acosta said. CIO
