Central 911 now Gawad Kalasag Hall of Famer
The City Government of Davao’s Central 911 was inducted into the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Hall of Fame during the 22nd Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling GAling ang Kaligtasan) Special Awards for the Best Government Emergency Management Response Team Category.
The Gawad KALASAG is considered the highest award given to local government units in the country that have shown notable disaster risk reduction and management response, as well as humanitarian assistance programs. Davao City has won the award several times in the past making it the first Local Government Unit in the Philippines to have been inducted as a Hall of Famer.
The plaque was handed over by Office of the Civil Defense Region XI (OCDRO XI) Regional Director, Ednar Dayanghirang, to the City Government of Davao during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Head, Alfredo Baloran, said in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO) that the award is significant in boosting the morale of their personnel who work 24/7 on the ground to deliver efficient emergency medical response to Dabawenyos.
“Kani siya nga award is a prestigious award since this is the first time na naa’y Hall of Fame sa kining sa government emergency response services awarded by the National Risk Reduction and Management Council. Dako kaayo ni siya og dungog for of course sa Davao City [This is a prestigious award since it is the first time that someone won a Hall of Famer in the government emergency response services award from the National Risk Reduction and Management Council. This is a huge honor for Davao City],” he said.
Baloran extended his gratitude to the city mayor for his unceasing support to the city’s disaster response teams. He also said that the mayor instructed his office to further enhance its resources and activities to ensure that all Dabawenyos receive efficient service.
Meanwhile, Baloran said that part of their office’s best practices, which led to the achievement, was their quick response to emergency reports, as well as the dedication of their personnel in their line of work.
He dedicated the award to the Central 911 personnel for their dedication to providing Dabawenyos with reliable emergency response services.
“Ato na siyang ginadedicate also this award sa atoang mga tao, working people on the ground nga naa diha maskin ulan o init, 24 hours naa na sila diha [We also dedicate this award to our personnel, the people working on the ground who are there 24/7],” he said.CIO
