Davao City student journalists bagged multiple medals in the recently concluded National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), greatly contributing to Davao Region’s win as champion of the competition.

The Davao Region won the highly coveted first place in the NSPC, ending the nine-year streak of Region IV-Calabarzon.

Department of Education Davao City School’s Division Superintendent, Reynante Solitario, in an interview with the City Information Office, said the overwhelming victory of the region was worth celebrating especially after the student journalists of the city for the secondary level won first place in radio broadcasting.

“We have contributed much to the winnings of Region XI. Kung muhisgot ta about NSPC, we have wins in different competitions particularly individual and group categories. Makalipay gyud na naa ta’y schools nga naka first place sa News Writing [Our Dabawenyo student journalists contributed greatly in the winnings of Region XI. We are so glad because we have schools that won first place like in News Writing],” he said.

“Nakita pud namo sa ihap sa resulta, daghan gyud ang atoang first place. We won the highly coveted Radio Broadcasting and scripwriting. Nailog gyud nato na for several years nga wala nato na nakuha, and finally we got the crown sa Davao City Division [Based on the results, we also saw that we have won a lot of first place. Solitario added that the challenge now is how to maintain the city’s and the region’s rank in the competition. He said that schools were already given the directive to further train and hone both talents and skills of their students in the field.

He also extended his gratitude to the city government especially to the city mayor for his support to the DepEd and the students who brought honor to the city. He also thanked partner agencies, the parents, and other stakeholders for their help and support to the student representatives of the city.

The City Government of Davao is one with the DepEd Davao in encouraging students to continue working hard and to not shy away from showing their talents as the city assures its full support. CIO
