The City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) on March 4 reopened the newly renovated Sasa Parola Child Development Center.
The rehabilitation program of the said daycare center was jointly carried out by SK Federation President Kristine Pinky Abdul Mercado, the 10th Civil-Military Operations “Kalinaw” Battalion, and the Peace 911.
Monday’s turnover was attended by Mayor Sebastian Duterte, Vice Mayor J Melchor Quitain, Barangay Captain Jerry Licarte, Barangay Councilor Mary John Abdul Mercado and other barangay functionaries, teachers, parents and pupils of the Sasa Parola Child Development Center
CSWDO Buhangin B District Head Jackie Lou Roble said the center is one of the 22 city-run daycare centers in the district. Roble said she, as well as the teachers, are grateful for the initiative of the SK Federation since the daycare has indeed fallen to a state of disrepair due to the lack of funds. She said the daycare had also been renovated in record time as the army only took a week to finish the rehabilitation.
In his speech, Mayor Duterte thanked the proactive leadership of the SK Federation led by Abdul Mercado. The mayor also reminded residents of Sasa Parola to let the barangay and the city government know of any concerns they may have regarding public infrastructure, security, and social services. This, he said, will allow the authorities to respond to the people’s need as soon as possible.
“Tan-awa ninyo ang inyong komunidad, kung unsa’y tan-aw ninyo na maoy problema ninyo dinhi … kung makita ninyo na nay medyo luoy dinha, tabangi ninyo. Kung dili gani ninyo kaya, ingna ang barangay kay kung di na kaya sa barangay, muabot na man gyud na sa city, sa akoa (Be aware of your community, if you see what the problem is … if you see any who are perhaps disadvantaged, help them. If you cannot, tell the barangay because if the barangay is also incapable of helping, the matter will surely reach the city, it will reach me),” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Mercado said the Sasa Parola daycare center is only the first of the many daycare centers the SK Federation is planning to rehabilitate. CIO
