The City Government of Davao through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, on May 24, 2024, assisted 26 individuals whose livelihoods were affected by big monsoon waves that hit Barangay Lizada in Toril district on May 10.
Social Welfare Assistant and District Overseer Teresita Obang, in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO) on Thursday, said that they have given food packs and grocery items after the validation of the barangay request to assist the individuals whose boats or lantsa have been affected.
“Nag letter ang barangay captain sa amoa last May 21, specifically asking for food packs, so naghatag mi’g 5 kilos of rice and assorted groceries (We received a letter from the Barangay Captain last May 21, specifically asking for food packs so we gave them five kilograms of rice and assorted groceries),” Obang said.
She added they usually learn about residents affected by disasters through barangays and once they receive the reports, the social workers validate them.
She said that so far, only Barangay Lizada has reported damage.
In cases of disasters, Obang said that CSWDO is always ready to assist residents and assess what the office can do, including psychological first aid. Also included in their services is the assessment of an individual’s eligibility for livelihood assistance. CIO
