The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday said that Package 1-1 of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project covering Tacunan to Tigatto, which includes two tunnels, is now 60 percent complete.

DPWH Project Manager III Engr. Joselito B. Reyes told reporters that for the 2.3 km tunnel, they have completed the excavation of the north bound side while they only need to excavate 117 meters for the southbound side.

Included in Package 1-1 are four lane roads, bridges, box culverts, intersection, underpasses and overpasses.

Reyes added that works for Package 1 started in December 21, 2020 and is proposed to be completed in 2026. It is only one of the six packages under the 45.5 Kilometer Davao City Bypass Construction Project (DCPBCP).

The bypass road starts in Barangay Sirawan, Toril Davao City and will end at Barangay J.P Laurel Panabo City.

“The usual travel time of one hour and 44 minutes, through the bypass road, will be reduced to 49 minutes,” Reyes said.

The project aims to improve transport and logistics and mitigate congestion in Davao City, thereby contributing to the economic and sound urban development of the city and the Davao Region. CIO
