Davao City’s local and foreign sister cities took part in the celebration of the 39th Kadayawan Festival.
Among the guests who graced the celebration were the delegates from the People’s Republic of China’s Dalian City, and His Royal Highness Dato Muhammed Bin Abdulla of Malaysia.
Delegates from South Korea’s Pohang City, People’s Republic of China’s Panjin City, and Japan’s Upper House Senator Shiomura Ayaka also visited the city.
The foreign delegates from Davao’s sister cities had a courtesy meeting with Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte on August 17 where the mayor invited them to witness and experience Kadayawan.
Mayor Duterte also held a welcome dinner for the sister cities showing his appreciation.
Christian Cambaya, Investors Assistance and Servicing Unit Head of the Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC), said the courtesy meetings gave way to general discussions on potential collaborations and partnerships in areas of trade, commerce, education, tourism, and technology among others.
Cambaya added that the DCIPC eyes the implementation of a Sister City Trade Fair wherein the city’s sister cities will be invited to showcase their culture, products, and possible investment plans.
“There will be booths where they can bring in their products as well as their cultural performers,” he said.
Cambaya also bared that South Korea’s Pohang City is “in the process of establishing ties to formalize an agreement as Davao’s sister city.” CIO
