A segment on the coronation will showcase the candidates of the 11 tribes of the city speaking in their language, the event organizer of the Hiyas sa Kadayawan said.

Dan SalvaƱa told Madayaw Dabaw over Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday that this segment of the Hiyas coronation is the latest addition to the annual showcase of the unique culture, tradition and talents of the tribes through the Hiyas sa Kadayawan candidates.

“Bag-o lang nay gilaunch ang City Tourism no nga hashtag authentic hiyas so this year gi-include namo mismo sa programa sa coronation nga madunggan gyud sa katawhan nga mag istorya gyud in their own dialect ang mga kandidata. Ginagawa naman natin yan years before pero karon i-highlight nato na nga part na authentic hiyas gyud ni sila nga nangapil sa hiyas sa kadayawan (The City Tourism Operations Office recently launched #AuthenticHiyas and included in the coronation program the portion where the people will hear the candidates speak their language. We have done this before but now, we will highlight this part to make it known that those who joined are authentic Hiyas),” Dan SalvaƱa said.

He added that the segment will be the opening part, in which the candidates will be giving statements in their languages, which they would later translate to the vernacular.

“Gwapo pud ni nga development because I think part of the reason nganong naga celebrate ta’g Kadayawan is to educate Dabawenyos ug dili taga Davao og unsa ang atong kultura and their dialect mismo is part sa ilang kultura (This is a good development because I think part of reason why we celebrate Kadayawan is to educate Dabawenyos and those who are not from Davao about our culture and language is really part of the culture),” SalvaƱa added.

SalvaƱa said that as the cultural presentation of the Hiyas ng Kadayawan Candidates was held on August 10, 2024, the candidates are now preparing for the coronation night on August 16, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the RMC Petro Gazz Arena.

“(The) City Tourism Operations Office will announce the release of the tickets but it is on first come and first served basis and most of the tickets will also be given to the tribal leaders as they will be the one to distribute them to their tribe’s members,” SalvaƱa said.

Those who will not be able to get tickets for the event can view the coronation through live streaming on the Kadayawan Festival Page. CIO
