The Integrated Gender Development Division (IGDD), along with partner agencies, mounted a Women’s Day Walk on March 8 in time for the celebration of the International Women’s Day.

More than 3,000 Dabawenyas from Poblacion and Talomo districts, local government agencies, national government agencies, and other women’s groups participated in the parade.

Lorna Mandin, Chief of the Integrated Gender Development Division, said the parade was not only about celebrating women, but also an avenue to promote gender equality and inform women of their rights.

“Sa mga babae, aduna ta’y katungod isip tawo ug maayo nga ma-realize nato na kay simbako kita maabuso, aduna ta’y katungod para magreklamo (To the women, we have human rights, and it is important that we realize that because,God forbid, when we experience abuse, we know that we have the right to report it),” she said.

She also enjoined the male population to be partners in the fight for gender equality and women empowerment, and become champions of women’s rights.

The Women’s Day Walk was not only held in downtown Davao, but also in the various districts in the city.

Mandin said that it was agreed that women’s groups also mount a simultaneous Women’s Day Parade in their respective districts. CIO
