Vehicles coming from Maa or Magtuod will be prohibited from crossing the CP Garcia Highway effective February 22, 2024.

Instead, U-Turn slots will be provided for vehicles coming from either side to prevent congestion along the highway, given that the construction of the Maa Flyover is still ongoing.

CTTMO Acting Officer-In-Charge Eduardo Perez IV, during the I-Speak Media forum on Thursday, said that the no-crossing scheme and the use of the U-Turn slots ahead of the intersection were thoroughly considered.

“Naa’y residential map, Magtuod mao na ang gihatag nga U-Turn slot kay kung ihatag nato sa laing alternate route, mas mutaas ang ilang biyahe, mas grabe ka inconvenience (There is a residential map of Magtuod that is why we have provided a U-Turn slot because if we make them use another alternate route, their travel time will take longer and they will suffer more inconvenience),” Perez said, adding that what the CTTMO can do is mitigate heavy traffic flow in the area by designating an enforcer there.

He said that the CTTMO will observe the implementation of the scheme and may make adjustments depending on the observations.

“We will compare it to the days, halimbawa, Monday ang peak diha, i-compare nato, kung dili gud siya effective, we will find a way to have another scheme (We will compare it to the days, for example, Monday is the peak, and we will compare that [with the following days] and if it is found ineffective, we will find a way to have another scheme),” Perez said.

Perez the lifting of the scheme will depend on the progress of the project being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

A road widening scheme is already planned and the road right of way is underway to give way to the next phase of the flyover project.

He said that their office has complied with the City Transport and Traffic Management Board policy to properly inform the public about the implementation of the new traffic scheme three days prior to and on the the day of the implementation.

Perez asked motorists to take into consideration the new traffic scheme and anticipate the heavy traffic flow along the Maa-Diversion roads.

“Plan your travel [note that] if wala gyu’y choice muagi mo diha dapita sa CP Garcia kay hinay gyud ang dagan didto because of no crossing of vehicle. Kung naa ka’y plano, use the alternate roads (Plan your travel, note that if you do not have a choice and use the CP Garcia area, expect it to have really slow traffic flow because of the no-crossing of vehicles. If you have plans, use the alternate roads),” Perez said. CIO
