The City Government of Davao conducted a transport vision workshop with stakeholders from the government and private sectors as well as from the academe.

The forum was held on April 29 in a hotel in Davao City with around 100 participants.

Atty. Tristan Dwight Domingo, Project Manager of the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), said in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO) that the forum is focused on gathering insights from different sectors on how they envision transportation and traffic in general should be in the city.

He said that the inputs from the workshop will be incorporated in the transport master plan that the City Government of Davao, with technical assistance from industry experts and consultants, is currently crafting. The Transport Master Plan project is a yearlong study that will look into the current transport and traffic situation of the City of Davao, and how the city can best prepare to tackle and solve challenges attending the same, such as congestion. It is targeted to be finalized by the end of the 1st quarter of 2025, and is one of the priorities of Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte.

According to Domingo, the majority of the feedback obtained from the workshop can be anchored on the city’s tagline “Davao Life is Here,” highlighting the need for an efficient and effective transportation system in the city

“The participants in the workshop primarily highlighted the need for travel efficiency and convenience in the movement of people and goods; basically, a good or better life for the people in the city. With this, everyone can be assured that the City Government of Davao is doing its best in providing the same as it has remained committed to implementing the DPTMP. It has also continued its emphasis in requiring its partner government agencies as well as the community in general to be mindful with the impacts that we all have whether in our projects, such as with the DPWH, or discipline.” he said.

Domingo added that the comments generated from the participants show that the people share Mayor Duterte’s call for Dabawenyos to be more disciplined in the future—to cooperate and participate in governance by following the current and future city ordinances.

He also said that apart from the workshop conducted, the city is open to more insights and inputs from the public through the Davao City Reports, a platform intended not only for complaints but also for suggestions on how to better improve life in the city.

Domingo assured the public that more activities similar to the workshop will be conducted in the future since transportation is an integral part of the city’s development.

“We will have more activities like this because we do view the city right now, kaning atoang problem or ang atoang transportation situation, as an important issue or matter in the development of our city. So hopefully, with having a vision and proper planning we will be able to benefit from the comments, ideas, visions generated from the community.” Domingo said. CIO
