A week after the implementation of the new Speed Limit Ordinance, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), along with the PNP-Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), has already apprehended more than 400 violators.

PCol. Dionisio Abude, Officer-in-Charge of the CTTMO, said during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday that their office has recorded a total of 334 violators. Meanwhile, TEU Deputy Chief PCapt. Raymundo Becera said that the TEU’s record is almost 400.

“As mentioned by Capt. Becera, almost 400 ang ilahang na apprehend. Kana siya idungag na siya didto sa atoang naencode na karon nga mga apprehension sa atoang opisina nga aduna na’y 334 [As mentioned by Capt. Becera, the TEU, already apprehended almost 400 violators. This is in addition to the 334 that our office has encoded],” Abude said.

He also explained that the relatively high number of violators must have been because the ordinance is still new, and their teams are focused on implementing the new speed limit.

According to Abude, their officers encode the apprehensions daily to efficiently monitor the number of offenses an individual who violated the ordinance has committed.

Based on the ordinance, violators are fined Php 1000 for the first offense; Php 2000 for the second offense; and Php 5000 for the third offense. In addition, a fine of Php 1500 for the first and second offense, or Php 2500 for the third and subsequent offense shall be imposed when: (1) the speed of the apprehended vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit by more than 30 kph; or (2) the motor vehicle is driven recklessly.

Violators must settle their penalties within seven (7) calendar days. If the violator fails to settle their fines, an additional Php 500 fine shall be imposed.

Abude also reiterated that the purpose of the creation of the ordinance is to ensure the safety of road users. Drivers are urged to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations for the benefit of all road users. CIO
