The City Transport and Traffic Management (CTTMO) has completed putting up signage for vehicles and finished the conduct of orientation of vendors affected by the new Bankerohan traffic scheme to take effect on June 1.

The scheme is done for the orderly, efficient and easy movement of vehicles and safety of marketgoers within Bankerohan Public Market.

With the new traffic scheme, portions of Posadas St., Datu Bago St., and Marfori St. will be strictly used as public pay parking areas. This is in accordance with City Ordinance 0334-12 or the Davao City Comprehensive Traffic Code.

Apart from the pay parking, the scheme includes restriction of vendors from roads, implementation of new turning points for tricycles and Public Utility Jeep (PUJs), restriction of entry for tricycles and trisikads in some roads, implementation of new passenger loading and unloading areas, and also implementation of the new drop-off areas for cargo.
CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude said during the I-Speak Media forum on Thursday, March 20 that the placing of the signages is already complete.

Data from CTTMO reveal that the office has placed 25 “No Parking and No Vendors Allowed signage and seven “No Entry to All Tricycles” signage. New passenger loading and unloading areas and cargo drop-off areas are also set.

Abude, during the same forum, assured that they
consulted stakeholders – including vendors and trisikad drivers – about the scheme. Vendors affected by the public pay parking will transfer to market spaces for lease that are identified by the City Economic Enterprises.

These vendors are given until May 31 to transfer as the scheme will take effect on June 1.

Some 87 vendors in Datu Bago, Marfori Extension to Pag-asa St were also issued notices of violation for the encroachment of their stalls on the roads. They were given seven days from the issuance of the notice of violation to self-remove the encroaching attachments. The CTTMO also reminded the vendors to observe the 1/3-2/3 policy.

Abude said that personnel will be placed to monitor the compliance of vendors, trisikads, and PUJs with the new traffic scheme.

He said their office, the Ancillary Services Unit, and the City Economic Enterprises prepared an Operation Plan for the new scheme last December 2023 to straighten out observed congestion of roads within Bankerohan. They have conducted consultations with vendors since February this year.

More details on the traffic scheme will be posted on the CTTMO Page and the City Government of Davao Page. CIO
