The highly-anticipated RondalSayaw competition held its grand finale on Saturday, March 8, showcasing the extraordinary skills of Dabawenyos in rondalla and folk dancing.

Every year, as part of the Araw ng Dabaw celebrations, various rondalla groups and folk dancers from different barangays, schools, and communities throughout and outside Davao City come together for the RondalSayaw competition.

A total of 25 groups participated in this year’s competition. The Rondalla contest had 10 contingents, while the Folk Dance competition had five contingents in each category: children, junior, and adult.

The South Cotabato Family Rondalla was named winner in the Rondalla competition. The Tagum City National Comprehensive High School Rondalla came in second, followed by the Sto. Tomas National High School.

The winner in the Rondalla competition received P100,000, while the second and third placers, received cash prizes of P75,000 and P50,000, respectively. A consolation prize of P25,000 was also given to the non-winners.

In the Folk Dance competition, the Hulma Dance troupe emerged as the winner in the children category. The Magallanes Elementary SPA and the Lapu-Lapu Elementary School came in second and third, respectively.

The Ateneo SHS Maskara took home the top prize for the Junior category. The DCNHS Sining Sayon Dawet Cultural Ensemble and Bernardo D. Carpio National High School came in second and third respectively.

The Ateneo SHS Maskara Teachers and Alumni also dominated the Adult Category. The Lahing Dabawenyo Cultural Ensemble came in second, followed by the Madayaw Cultural Ensemble.

The winners in the Folk Dancing competition in the three categories received a P75,000 cash prize. The second and third placers also received P50,000 and P35,000, respectively. A consolation prize of P25,000 was also given to the non-placers.

The RondalSayaw tilt served as a reminder of Davao’s rich cultural heritage in addition to giving the locals a platform to showcase their abilities. CIO
