This year’s celebration of the Kadayawan Festival will not only highlight the culture of the Indigenous People but also the homegrown talents of Davao as the festival brings back Tunog Mindanao, a former component of the Kadayawan Festival that has produced a lot of Mindanao talents.

Oscar Casaysay, Davao City Culture and the Arts Office head, said during the Kadayawan Media Conference held at Rogen Inn on Thursday that the addition of Tunog Mindanao showcase is based on the request of the culture and the arts sector.

He bared that Tunog Mindanao (World Music Festival) produced many local talents, not only in Davao but in the entire Mindanao, such as Maan Chua and Gauss Obenza.

“This year, we are bringing back to showcase lang una, we are showcasing all of the past winners and we are going to have back-to-back event on the 15th, which is the Indigenous Peoples’ day (This year we will bring back [Tunog Mindanao] as a showcase first, we are showcasing all of the past winners and we are going to have a back-to-back event on the 15th, which is the Indigenous People’s Day),” Casaysay said.

He added that they already confirmed that Joey Ayala, also a well-known Mindanoan talent, will grace the event.

Tunog will be staged back-to-back with the Agong and Kulintangan, a musical showcase that highlights the rich cultural heritage of Davao’s indigenous peoples.

Casaysay said that the soft-launching of Tunog is one of their ways to highlight, not only the IPs but the culture and the arts sector as well. CIO
