In celebration of the 88th Araw ng Dabaw, the City Government of Davao, through the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), is inviting locals and tourists to explore the city’s historical landmarks through the free heritage walking tours from March 13 to 15.
The tour’s first and second days on March 13 and 14 are reserved for students of tourism-related courses. On March 15, the tour is for Dabawenyos and visitors.
The Davao History and Heritage Walking Tour will start from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the People’s Park.
Chin Fuerte, Project Manager of Garbo Davao Events Management Services, in an interview with Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) said their activities, which include games, trivia, and a video presentation, are all intended to enhance the participants’ knowledge of Davao City’s history from its early settlement to its evolution into a modern city.
She said the tours will cover significant sites like the San Pedro Cathedral and San Pedro Building, Osmeña Park, the Clock Tower, and the City Hall of Davao— all of which are integral to the city’s past.
Several tour guides accredited by the Department of Tourism XI will provide the participants the historical context behind the sites. The walking tour is expected to run for one and a half hours.
The initiative is also tied to the city’s efforts to have places like the San Pedro Cathedral recognized as heritage sites.
