The Environment and Sanitation Division of the City Health Office (CHO) on Thursday reminded establishments to renew their sanitary permits, being one of the main requirements for the continuity of their businesss.
CHO Sanitary Inspector III Jinolex Caingles, during the I-Speak Media forum on Thursday, said that some establishments still have to visit their office after getting their business permit logo for the sanitary permit request.
“We encourage gyud namo ang establishments, food and non-food, to secure sanitary permits from the office, pagkakuha nila ng kanilang business permit logo they have to go to our office to request for a sanitary permit (We encourage the establishments, food and non-food, to secure sanitary permits from the office, after they get their business permit logo they have to go to our office to request for a sanitary permit),” Caingles said.
He said that their office will conduct inspections after the business permit renewal period. The inspection aims to check on the compliance of establishments with their checklist.
“Ang checklist based sa atoang national and local na rules for establishments, for example requirements sa mga trabahante kung kumpleto ba sila og health certificates and regarding sa sanitation, kumpleto ba ang pest control programs nila (Our checklist is based on our national and local rules for establishments, for example we check if their workers have health certificates and also if they have complete pest control programs),” he said.
Caingles said that it is only after the inspection and compliance with the checklist that they will issue the sanitation permit.
He said that as of 2024, they were able to recommend the non-renewal of establishments that failed to comply with the requirements. Most of these cases include establishments that caused nuisance through emission of foul odor and those who failed to implement a pest control program.
More than the blockage of renewal, their office may also impose sanctions on establishments on a case to case basis.
“Regarding sa mga sanctions depende sa unsa ka bug-at ang ilahang violation if need lang siya og measures, ipa-comply and kung dili ma comply i-block. But for cases na medyo [dako] food poisoning pwede ra namo direct ipa-stop ang ilahang operation (Regarding the sanctions, it depends upon the weight of their violation. If it only needs corrective measures, we will ask them to comply and if they will not comply, we will recommend blocking them. But for cases that are quite serious, for example food poisoning, we can order them to stop their operations immediately),” Caingles said.

Aside from reminding establishments of their responsibilities in complying with the sanitation permit, Caingles also urged Dabawenyos to report to them cases of nuisance.
“For Dabawenyos, if they think nga na disturb or na compromise ang kanilang natural senses sa baho, ingay, punta lang po kayo sa office ng Environmental Sanitation Division ng City Health Office (To Dabawenyos, if they think that their natural senses were disturbed or compromised because of odor or noise, they may report it to the Environmental Sanitation Division of the City Health Office),” Caingles said.
