The City Government of Davao, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), held a solemn ceremony on Monday to remember the 2003 old Davao airport bombing.
The victims and family of the victims offered flowers and lit candles at the bombing site in Sasa.
Also present during the ceremony are personnel from Task Force Davao, and Public Safety and Security Office led by PLt. Col. Angel Sumagaysay (Ret.).
CSWDO Officer-in-Charge Julie Dayaday said in an interview with the City Information Office that the city government continued to provide support to the victims and the families of the victims.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by 2nd District Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr., also called on Dabawenyos to coordinate and cooperate with the city’s safety and security cluster.
“It is our collective duty as one Dabawenyo community to work together in keeping the peace. The safety of our city does not depend on our security forces alone but by the involvement of everyone in continuously fostering the culture of security,” he said.
“This is our way to support our anti-terrorism, anti-criminality, and anti-insurgency efforts in the city,” he added.
Duterte said that the incident 22 years ago continues to serve “as a reminder that threats of violence and terrorism continue to exist.”
Dabawenyos are urged to remain vigilant, to practice the four acts of the culture of security: volunteer, report, remind, and participate; and to continue following the city’s security protocol for the safety of everyone. CIO
