In anticipation of a large crowd of devotees that will flock to the Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague on Shrine Hills in Matina on January 15, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Wednesday bared the security measures it will be enforcing to ensure a safe and orderly observation.
DCPO Spokesperson PCpt. Hazel Tuazon said 80 police personnel from the DCPO will be deployed on site to assist those from the Police Station 3 (Matina) in monitoring the area surrounding the chapel. Some 50,000 people are expected to attend the celebration.
“For the Shrine na kapistahan, naka-ready na pud ang atong mga PNP personel nga ma-deploy. Naa ta’y 80 ka personnel from DCPO wala pa’y labot ang personnel from the station kung diin under sa iyang AOR, wala pa’y labot ang force multipliers and then volunteers (For the Shrine, our PNP personnel to be deployed are now ready. We have 80 personnel from the DCPO, not including the personnel from the police station whose Area of Responsibility covers the chapel, this also does not include the force multipliers and volunteers),” Tuazon said during the AFP-PNP media forum at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
A one-entrance, one-exit policy will be implemented during the feast, Tuazon said. Attendees may only reach the chapel from the Matina road, and exit through the Diversion Road.
“Ginahanngyo lang pud nato kanunay ang kooperasyon sa tanan, kooperasyon sa mga musalmot sa maong activity nga mu-follow lang unsa’y mga do’s and don’ts nga ihatag nato sa maong event para wala’y problema, smooth lang ang tanan (We are asking everyone for the cooperation of everyone, cooperation of those who will attend the activity to follow the do’s and don’ts to be enforced during the event to avoid problems, and ensure that everything goes smoothly),” she said.
Sharp objects, non-transparent water bottle, backpacks, and the wearing of jackets are not allowed in the area. CIO
