The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) vowed to continue serving the Dabawenyos as it celebrated its 32nd anniversary on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

In 1992, the CSWDO was devolved and decentralized to the City Government of Davao by RA 7160 and City Ordinance No. 2374 Series of 1994. Since then, it has been in the forefront of delivering fundamental services to the city’s underprivileged, oppressed, and exploited citizens.

CSWDO Acting Officer-In-Charge Julie Dayaday said they started with just 50 workers, but now they have more than a thousand workers and continue to fulfill their mandate of serving the marginalized people.

She added that as they progress, the services and programs offered by the office also evolved as they now serve Solo Parents and Persons With Disability.

“For 32 years, gapadayon ta kung unsa ang mandato nato, to help the disadvantaged and naa sa marginalized. Ang programs and services ni CSWDO nag-evolve na pud. Before, gamay lang kaayo ta og programa. Ang sector nga atoang gina-cater from children to older person karon naa naman ta’y nadungag [nga services] sa atoang mga solo parent [ug] atoang mga PWDs. (For 32 years, we continue our mandate, to help the disadvantaged and marginalized. Our programs and services in CSWDO also evolved. Before we have fewer programs. The sector that we cater from children to older people also expanded as we now have services for our solo parent and our PWDs),” she said.

Other programs and services offered by the office include Family Welfare and Community Welfare Programs, Child and Youth Welfare Programs, Women Welfare Programs, Elderly and Persons with Disability Programs, Emergency Assistance Programs, and others.

Dayaday also said that aside from the Solo Parent Program, they also focus on the programs for the PWDs. She said they are currently working on the Annual Financial Assistance (AFA) of the senior citizens and continue the cash incentives for centenarians.

The city government, through the CSWDO already gave the P100,000 cash incentive to 16 centenarians. It is expected to distribute its annual subsidy for the 170,000 senior citizens by the end of this month or early November.

She said that in celebration of their 32nd anniversary, they also conducted the Human Behavioral in an Organization (HBO) that would help their personnel develop personal interaction with one another and understand themselves more.

“Gusto pud nato nga dili lang ta mag-celebrate, but we will also remind ang atoang personnel sa CSWDO kung unsa jud ta diha sa sulod organization. [It is] very important kaayo nga kaila ta sa atoang kaugalingon [ug] sa atoang kapasidad (We want to not only celebrate but also remind our personnel in CSWDO on our role inside the organization. It is very important that we know ourselves and our capacities),” she said.

She said the HBO also became an avenue to have fun together with CSWDO retirees. CIO
