The City Government of Davao’s main residential care center for Children-in-Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children at Risk (CAR) recently held a month-long summer camp.
Riza Ibañez, Center’s Manager said last month’s summer camp was designed to foster personal growth and instill positive values on its residents.
She said throughout the month of May, the children participated in various sporting and recreational activities such as basketball, volleyball, and table tennis, and innovative race challenges designed to promote teamwork and leadership.
She said children were also engaged in community cooking sessions, giving them the opportunity to prepare their own meals and learn valuable life skills.
“Naa ta’y mga [reflection] nga ginabuhat at the end of the activity para masabtan nila unsa ang mga punto nganong nag-conduct mi ani nga month-long summer camp (We conduct a reflection session at the end of each activity so that the children understand the purpose behind this month-long camp),” she said.
The Bahay Pag-asa, a 24-hour child-caring facility, has 100 residents as of May 30. It operates under the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The facility, which was established as Lamdag sa Kabataan Boy’s Home on August 14, 2008 in response to Republic Act 9344, originally catered exclusively to CICL awaiting court disposition.
With the passage of City Ordinance No. 0264-12 series of 2012, which provided the comprehensive Juvenile Intervention Program, the institution expanded its services to also include CAR.
Ibañez said Bahay Pag-asa continues to offer a wide range of programs and services for its residents, including psychosocial care, self-help activities, and health and nutrition services.
The center also offers socio-cultural and recreational activities, spiritual and moral welfare, value education, family preservation and unification, case management, psychological evaluation, and educational assistance. CIO
