The City Government of Davao, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), gave assistance to the 51 families affected by the landslide in Sitio Kiman-anao, Barangay Salapawan, Paquibato District.
Mary Ann Abayon, CSWDO District Head for Paquibato, said they have distributed food packs, hygiene kits, disaster kits, and grocery packs to the 51 families.
Hot meals were also provided immediately after the affected families arrived at the designated evacuation area.
Abayon said a total of 143 people were affected by the March 4 landslide.
A 17-year-old child, whose house was covered by the landslide, was injured. No fatalities were reported.
She also said the landslide destroyed two houses, and that the local government is preparing to provide those who were left homeless with financial support.
Abayon urged Dabawenyos to be ready at all times, particularly in areas that are vulnerable to landslides and floods.
“Kailangan gyud nga mag-igmat ta and always prepare for the mandatory pre-emptive evacuation for them to save yong sarili nila and the rest of the family (We must exercise caution and be ready for the mandatory pre-emptive evacuation to protect them and the rest of the family),” she said. CIO
