The Davao City Centralized Eid Prayer Council and the Office of the City Muslim Affairs on April 13 marked the Eid al-Fitr with a grand banquet at the Grand Men Seng Hotel.
The Pabuka 2024 was attended by Darul Ifta Wadda’wah Association Region XI Grand Mufti Shayk Muhammad Pasigan, Moro tribal chiefs, community leaders, educators, and others in a show of solidarity with Muslim Ummah all over the world for the end of Ramadan celebration.
Leaders of the Iranun, Tausug, Kagan, Sama, Maranao, and Maguindanaon tribes expressed their hopes for continuous peace and unity in Davao City regardless of religious and secular divides.
“Our leaders coming from the Maranao community commit to collaborating closely with the city government. We are determined to ensure that Davao’s peace and harmony continue to live on,” said Maranao Tribe Deputy Mayor Rahima Usman-Polao.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in his speech, reiterated that the local government remains committed to upholding religious tolerance as the city strives to become a beacon of acceptance and unity in Mindanao.
“Pati na rin sa ibrang relihiyon, ang importante ‘pag nandito tayo sa Davao walang mas mataas, walang mas mababa—pantay-pantay lang (The same for other religions, what is important is that here in Davao City none is more superior than others—all are equal),” the mayor said.
“I’m just happy to see you celebrate Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr peacefully, without disruptions and walang distorbo sa inyoha (with no disturbances for you),” he added.
Duterte also asserted that the ideally peaceful celebrations of Ramadan in Davao City must be sustained and perpetuated in the future through good will and cooperation of all peoples in the city. CIO
