A total of 117 companies completed the drug-free workplace training as of February 18, the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) said on Wednesday.

The drug-free workplace training is in accordance with the City Ordinance 0506 series of 2013 and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Order No. 53, series of 2003, which requires all private establishments with 10 or more employees to complete the training in order to renew their business permits.

Jaffar Marohomsalic, the officer-in-charge of CADAC, in an interview with Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) said that the training is essential to guaranteeing a secure and healthy workplace.

He said that in 2024, 218 of the 6,775 employees from private companies tested positive after undergoing random drug testing.

He said the main goals of the training were to increase staff knowledge of Republic Act 9165, strengthen their abilities to prevent drug misuse and raise employee awareness of the dangers of drug use.

Aside from the training, companies are also required to develop a drug-free workplace policy and a three-year drug abuse prevention plan.

He said the training sessions are provided by several institutions including the University of Mindanao, the University of the Immaculate Conception, and Ateneo de Davao University.

He also said people who test positive on the drug test will undergo rehabilitation, community-based rehabilitation, and medical, psychological, and social intervention.

He also reminded company owners to take part in the drug-free workplace training to avoid complications with business permit renewal. CIO
