The Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Environment wants to conduct a study on the advantages of electric vehicles, in a bid to incentivize its use within Davao City.
Councilor Temuin “Tek” Ocampo, in a privilege speech, proposed a deeper study on the advantages of the use of Electronic Vehicle within the city.
Ocampo said that the use of electronic vehicle is now a trend, and a shift to greener transportation should be considered within the city because it reduces carbon emission and is not affected by the rising prices of fuel.
“This is a solution not only to the rising prices of fuel but also in preserving the environment because with EVs there is zero to less emission,” Ocampo said.
Ocampo said that since the push for further studies on promotion of electric vehicles in Davao City was approved in the first reading, their next move is to invite EV manufacturers to shed light on the advantages and even disadvantages of EV use.
Depending on the findings of the committee hearing, the committee may recommend incentives for EV use.
Aside from manufacturers, they are also open to inviting the transport sector and other concerned stakeholders regarding EV use.
Ocampo clarified that this measure is not a move to phase out the existing vehicles for transportation, which are not EVs.
“There is no phase out here, wala ta’y undangaon nga existing, atoa lang mangita ta’g pamaagi nga slowly we transition from fossil fuel to cleaner options such as EV ( There is no phase out here, we will not phase out or stop the operation of the existing vehicles, what we want is to find another way to slowly transition from fossil fuel to cleaner options such as EV), “ Ocampo said.
