In celebration of the National Fire Prevention Month, the Davao City Fire District conducted a two-day Fire Square Roadshow attended by more than 1,200 Dabawenyos.
The activities on March 15 and 16 at SM Ecoland Davao Annex were aimed at raising awareness about fire safety and prevention among the community.
The roadshow activities included mini rappelling, earthquake and fire drill, displays of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and Firefighting equipment, and basic life support session.
City Social Welfare and Development Office Officer-in-Charge Julie Dayaday emphasized the importance of community involvement in fire prevention activities.
“A single fire can destroy, homes, belongings, and books. That’s why initiatives like the roadshow are crucial,” she said.
She also underscored the role of the Bureau of Fire Protection as educators and protectors.
“Your work is often thankless, demanding, and incredibly challenging. You face danger head-on on frequently putting yourselves at risk to save others,” she said.
The Davao City Fire District also reiterated its commitment to promoting fire safety and preparedness among Dabawenyos. Throughout the year, it will visit barangays for the “Oplan Ligtas sa Pamayanan” in addition to the house-to-house inspections to identify potential fire hazards.
The event concluded with a call to action for the community to remain vigilant and work together to create a fire-safe environment in Davao City. CIO
