The City Government of Davao gave recognition to 101 retired city government employees for their valuable contribution to the city during the Pasasalamat 2024 ceremony at the SMX Convention Center on September 13.
The retirees from different offices in the city government received plaques of recognition and incentives to honor their dedication to public service.
Present during the event were Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr., the heads of the different offices in the city government, Atty. Therese Anne Licayan of the Civil Service Commission, and other guests.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in his message read by Vice Mayor Quitain, saluted the retirees for their contribution in the growth and development of the city.
“Your efforts contributed to the success of the policies, projects, and initiatives that have improved and continue to improve the lives of our fellow Dabawenyos,” he said.
Duterte also wished the retirees a fulfilling and rewarding retirement. He also said that he hopes that despite the parting of ways, the city government can continue to count on their support for the local government and for their colleagues who are still in service.
Dr. Marietta Nidea, one of the retirees who served as a dentist in the City Health Office for 30 years, shared in her message of gratitude that the privilege to serve the communities especially the far-flung areas in the city have shaped her life.
“I spent the best years of my life as a public servant bringing the much needed programs and activities closer to Dabawenyos,” she said.
She added that remembering the smiles of the children, the gratitude of the clients they have served, gives them a sense of fulfilment that came from knowing that they were making a real difference. CIO
