The Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Thursday launched the “Tingog Kababayen-an” program, a new platform dedicated to educating Dabawenyos about the rights of women.

Spearheaded by the DCDR of the City Information Office, in partnership with the Integrated Gender Development Division (IGDD), the initiative is aimed at providing a safe space where women can discuss pressing issues and seek support.

IGDD Chief Lorna Mandin said the program is important in raising awareness about women’s rights.

In 1997, Davao City pioneered the Women Development Code (WDC), a landmark legislation focused on protecting and advancing women’s rights. In 2003, the WDC led to the establishment of the IGDD, which continues to spearhead programs for women, including the annual Women’s Summit.

Mandin also encouraged women to actively engage and raise questions, particularly issues regarding violence against women and children (VAWC).

“Atoang focus is gender equality and women empowerment. Isa-isahon paghisgot ang katungod sa kababayen.an. Kung naa mo’y pangutana tawag mo sa 0939- 896-7296 (Women’s empowerment and gender equality are our main focus. One by one, let’s talk about women’s rights. If you have questions, you can call us at 0939- 896-7296),” she said.

The Tingog Kababayen-an program underscores the city’s commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women through education and open dialogue. CIO
